Lysol Mini Labs Kit
Overview
The GIANT Room partnered with Lysol’s HERE for Healthy Schools program to help early elementary school students understand better hygiene behaviors and science behind microbes. with the help of hands-on kits.
Over one and half years, our team co-designed and tested activities for three modules, combining physical journals and activities with digital teaching and take-home resources. These were distributed across 4000+ classrooms in the U.S. during each academic year.
The Challenge
Designing resources for diverse classrooms and short time blocks with easy to distribute materials
The Solution
Digital and physical learning resources that made concepts concrete and playful
The Impact
Distributed to ~5,000 U.S. 1st and 2nd Grade classrooms across U.S. over two years
Research & Discovery
Research involved conducting co-design sessions with teachers, kids and parents. The goals were to understand the constraints for using the activities in class, ease of use for students, especially with different reading levels and parents involvement in these activities.
Year 1: The initial research was conducted with teachers and kids.
- Understanding teachers' constraints and preferences
- Learning how kids engage with different activities
Year 2: Materials from Year 1 were used to collect feedback from parents and kids.
- Assessing how involved parents are or want to be
- Reimagining what the activities look like to improve retention
Designing For Real Classrooms
Fit within short time blocks
- Quick to start and easy to pause activities.
- Low prep and provide teachers a clear idea of how much time each activity would take.
- Not relying heavily on writing and reading.

- Playful mechanics and re-iterating concepts.
- Spread out across multiple modules to easily digest information.
Easy for parents to be involved
